LPMud
The first MUD to introduce the concept of a driver and game library, where the MUD works and acts as a virtual machine, allowing players (or Wizards) to define the game mechanics using the custom-defined language LPC.
The virtual machine or operating system was referred to as the Driver and the actual game (mechanics, objects, players, functionality, etc.) was called the MudLib, written in LPC. LPC was a C-like language created by Lars Pensjö the creator of LPMud.
LPMud, like DikuMUD and TinyMUD, spawned its own family branch, with a dozen derivatives, and generated hundreds and hundreds of servers and worlds over the decades.
Lars eventually stopped development, however, others eventually picked up the reigns, notably near the end by Amylaar, even having the LPMud driver codenamed as the Amylaar driver.
