NiMUD

Also originally known as The Isles, NiMUD was the light-hearted rival to the popular Rivers of MUD (ROM). It was (and remains to this day) one of the most fleshed out, advanced, and evolved Diku-based projects.

Though there may be some contention on this, The Isles/NiMUD is largely credited with being the very first codebase (especially in the Diku realm) to provide features like OLC (Online Creation), a leveless character system, a merchant system, a gem-based spell system, and many others.
